Okay...so here is the lowdown on the Atlanta show. Got there about 12 P.M. My boyfriend and I had the pre-sale early entry tickets and so did a bunch of others. Nobody who worked for the theatre seemed to have any clue where to stand for the early entry. We were informed to stand by the VIP gate, then to stand in another line altogether, then told to walk all the way around to the otherside of the theatre. When we finally got there, the folks who worked at the theatre said that "our" tickets did not include early entry (but it did...it was included in the message after you bought the tickets). So we went to go stand in the massive line when a guy who worked for actual Mayhemfest came up and told us that we indeed did have early entry. He radioed some inside person who concurred. By the time we were allowed to go in, it was already 1:30...time for the gates to open anyway. Before we could get in, we had to remove and throw away our wallet chains and I had to toss my brand new spiked bracelet...bummer. We were also allowed to have one factory sealed bottle of water, but they took my cap.
Once in, no one seemed to have a clue about anything...finally, we found the Sumerian and Jager stages. Didn't really want to check out the early bands, so we went to check out the tents. Went to the Slipknot tent to pick up a copy of Antennas to Hell (you need the cd and wristband in order to get an autographed poster from the guys---get your cd as soon you get inside the venue because they run out quick.). 3:00- We stood in line for at least a good 30 minutes to get a poster signing from Anthrax...Joey Belladonna was cool as hell! Afterwards, checked out DJ Starscream at the Killa compound -- incredible! (Keen is awesome!) 4:45-Went over to the Slipknot tent to do the poster signing while my boyfriend stood in line to meet Kerry King. (You need to get the coupons from the Jagerettes early on in order to meet him.) I was one of the first in so I got out pretty quick so I had enough time to get my copy of ATH signed by Sid at the Killa compound. 5:30-Got in line with my boyfriend to meet Kerry...I've heard a lot of "rumors" that this guy is an asshole...they are in fact rumors. He signed Greg's copy of "Hell Awaits". By that time, Anthrax was just beginning. They put on a great show...we were pretty close to the stage. Afterwards, went on over to our seats at the Rockstar stage. As I Lay Dying was just ending, about 15 minutes later....Motorhead! Lemmy is still god! Then came Slayer...holy shit! I felt like I was literally in the depths of hell during the whole set! After 30 years...they've still got it! Then, for the final act...Slipknot! Words cannot express how brutal this was! I wept after the show...joy and sadness. Watching Corey talk to Paul...oh my god. He WAS there! I never wanted it to end...but it did. I already missed them....it was the greatest experience of a lifetime. All I can say, Knotfest 2013....here I come!
